It allows students to develop their own combination of skills and interests and to find a position corresponding to their own unique profile. Where could be the hospitality education best for Nepalese students is still debated, where as there are so many excellent institutions in Nepal itself. It seems that many parents are undermining the standard of Nepalese hospitality education. In this coverage, we are providing insight about the course and validity of Nepalese degree abroad too. However, before we enter where to study hospitality management here in Nepal we would like to focus why shall we study hospitality management.

Hospitality industry provides wide range of business activities and specialisations and there is always the possibility for students to change fields easily within the industry. With the growth of the industry and change in interests of people as well as the students, there is possibility of exploring new dimensions and opportunities in the hospitality industry and keep up with rapid technological developments. More over, students can develop expertise essential to launch their own company with innovative business concept and ideas.

Why a career in hospitality?
Today students have many choices to make their career and it is obvious that some of them need guidance too. Before we are to suggest any career to them, let’s ask ourselves - Is there any education / career which enables our students discover new countries, new cultures, new people, and new ideas and implement the same as per the requirement of our soil? In hospitality career there is plenty of scope for creativity and initiative. The education is so global, enriching, practical and enjoying that every moment spent while in study or at work will definitely make a career seeker have a lifetime experience.
The hospitality industry is the largest and one of the most dynamic in the world today. It offers boundless possibilities in an exciting field where new areas are opening up every day. If students have enthusiasm, creativity, a true entrepreneurial spirit and hospitality at fingertips, they will be able to reach positions and responsibilities of their dream very early in the career. Hospitality allows express upward mobility.

What are you looking at?……a career that does not box me in but let me branch out, and grow!
The industry is global and international. Many would like to choose an international career in countries all over the world. This industry provides opportunities to work with people from different backgrounds, where your knowledge of different languages and cultures will be put to good use, and your ability to work in a multicultural setting will make all the difference wherever one choose to work. Indeed, students from our part of the world may find it difficult to cope up the new environment in starting days, but this is how it is – you will learn to face every challenges and move ahead to achieve your goal.

Hospitality expertise linked to other businesses
Fascinating career options are opening up with the need for hospitality expertise in other businesses too. A growing number of companies have recognized the strategic importance of the “hospitality element” and turn to hospitality graduates for a particular combination of skills that is hard to find anywhere else.

One area in which the need for hospitality is expanding rapidly is real estate. Investors in properties need finance and planning specialists with an inside knowledge of the industry. That is why many hospitality graduates are leaders in real-estate, consultancies and banking communities.

There are many other opportunities as well. For example, marketing and advertising specialists with the knowledge of dynamics of the hospitality business are very much in demand in communication agencies. Similarly private banks are searching for hospitality specialists for event management programmes. If you are entrepreneurially-minded, looking for opportunities to link your hospitality and technological know-how, you are very much in demand for your ability to create value-added services for the industry and for travellers.

The “hospitality element” opens up other new opportunities to help educational or non-profit institutions including museums, government agencies and international humanitarian organizations. As companies and organizations become more and more aware on the fact - offering greater value to their stakeholders and customers will help them to become more successful and more profitable.

The traditional boundaries of the hospitality business have been pushed beyond limitation. Today we focus on the “hospitality function”, which combines hospitality expertise with other business areas. The hospitality function has become essential in many businesses distantly related to the hospitality sector. It creates new kinds of hybrid jobs which unwrap boundless opportunities. >>Read More

There are things which we know it is there but when required it skips out of our mind. If you ask any one in Kathmandu for a destination to spend some free time near by Kathmandu or making travel to a destination in short distance, everyone will suggest many destinations but I’m sure many will skip to suggest the medieval town Bhaktapur. We would rather be happy to travel about 30-35 kms to enjoy our time but would not remember such a remarkable destination Bhadgaon, with the area of 6.88 sq km, just 13 km south east from core Kathmandu. Probably we always remember the traffic jam of Koteshwor and long queue of big vehicles in Araniko Highway, but the situation is going to be different very soon as the only six lane road is taking its shape. Further, we may not have more information on things to do there and ultimately we forget this beautiful destination. On a particular day in the month of June we geared up to visit to Bhaktapur City. We all set out on our bikes thinking that three would be traffic jam around Koteshowr and we were right. Due to ongoing road construction we had to stuck up for a while there, but soon we took the alternative route via Pepsi Cola; Old Thimi to Bhaktapur.

Accessibility
There are various route and means to reach Bhaktapur.

Bicycle and Motor Bike
The very usual and well known route for people from Lalitpur, Southern & Western Kathmandu is using the main Arniko Highway via Koteshowr; the other option is to take old route connecting old Thimi taking left turn from Jadibuti. The road now is very much in good condition for cycling and smooth bike riding. The slower you ride, the more you enjoy the route. Further if you want to get to this place from Northern part of Kathmandu you can take newly built roads along Bagmati Track of Guheshowri area (The inner road which connects Gokarna with Kathmandu skipping heavy traffic of Boudha) and then cross Bagmati Bridge which connects villages around Manahara River with the town of Kathmandu and have ride along the country side to reach Thimi.

Bus, Minibus, Microbus, Private Car & Taxi
Minibuses from Kathmandu (Rs 12/ 40 minutes) drop off / depart from a stand just southwest of Bhaktapur’s Navpokhu, a short walk from Durbar Square. The last minibus back to Kathmandu leaves at about 6.45pm. Them most convenient way – taking Microbuses to Bhaktapur from various places of Kathmandu.
Taxis from Kathmandu cost around Rs 350 – Rs 400 one way. If require private cars, contact any of the travel agents. Hiring private cars for whole day would cost Nrs. 1500 -2000 to this destination.
It was around 11am by the time we reached Durbar Square. As we had light breakfast together in our office before we set out for the destination, we were not hungry, so we decided to move around the city.

Attraction
Bhaktapur also known as Bhadgaon, Khowpa, or the “City of Devotees”, a living heritage site with 345 significant monuments (108 Buddhist and 273 Hindu) is the world heritage site since 1979. Official history has it that this Newari town was founded by King Anand Dev Malla in the 9th century is rich in architectural beauty, filled with ancient Hindu and Buddhist religious sites, palaces and courtyards where every traveler can easily spend hours to days absorbing the traditions and culture of the Newars. A visit to Durbar Square, Taumadi Square, Pottery Square / Dattatraya Square still will make you have the feel of ancient Bhadgaon. For your information the Durbar Square is vehicle regulated zone. Thus we had parked our bikes at the entrance of Bhaktapur Durbar Square.
Very much lethargic due to the days walk in and around durbar square for about four hours and the feeling of hunger had already prompted us to haunt for a place to have rest and nice meal. We rode back towards the west of Bhaktapur crossing the Army School to meet the lane which takes us to Nagarkot. Though, we were tired and hungry we could not miss a visit to Siddha Pokhari which gave all of us romantic feeling after visiting to the ancient era in the durbar square. We rested there for a while; fed the fishes in the Pokhari and enjoyed the view of kids playing in Army School Ground. After spending about forty five minutes, we were not in the condition to wait more for food. We made stop over at Greenland Hotel / Resort.

Business meeting abroad or in home land may not be new thing for many of us but for some, it really bothers. No knowledge about the preparation required or customs and understanding of other business partners puts many of us in dilemma. It is likely that you will be invited to make a business trip to your clients’ countries or you may invite them in your home land. Some idea about business etiquette would certainly help you to make your business travel and meet a successful one.

Dress Up
Some of you may feel more comfortable when you dress semi-casually for business meetings but make sure you have your best suit and tie when you plan for your meetings abroad or in home town. Your host may take things as sign of disrespect in case you attend a business meeting dressed informally. Even if your host is dressed casually, it would be better to take caution from you side.

Greeting
We always listen to the phrase ‘First impression is lasting impression’ and it really counts in business meetings. The fact remains the same around the globe. It is of utmost important to learn how to meet your colleagues with the greeting, shake hand in such way that is considered proper in their country. Shaking hand may not just be taking palm of colleague in your hand and move up and down, instead it could be hands joined near by heart, even a upper body hug further kiss on cheek (Once, Twice, Thrice or more depending on places and customs). So it would be good to know and practice the appropriate greeting before you meet anybody. >>Read More

Traveling is enjoyable experience until you face a situation where you feel that it has been ruined by one reason or other. Especially, when you take a lot of precautions and still get sick. It is not just about a few extra bathroom stops. Travelers take a lot of precaution on drinking water still it remains one of the leading sources of health problems. Drinking contaminated water can cause anything from mild gastrointestinal suffering to serious bacterial diseases.

The travelers when they are enjoying their trip in an unknown region can simply get ill due to the pathogens in the water of the destination. The simple reason is these pathogens are foreign to the traveler’s immune system, and at the same time the locals have already adapted to the water supply and do not have to face any problems. This is a small example of general water problems apart from other common water borne illness which are caused by bacteria like Cholera, Salmonella and further caused by protozoa like giardia, cryptosporidium and viruses like hepatitis A, etc. Here we should not forget that chemical pollutants also may cause illness to travelers as well as the local residents
How much is the Risk?
Traveling in so-called developed countries is also not risk-free. Cryptosporidium outbreaks appeared in the U.S. Midwest and Northwest, as well as in highly populated cities in Australia and giardia found in the water supply in St. Petersburg, Russia are some good example of the risks. Here, there is no need to mention about the risks in traveling to other parts of the world. We have to understand that the water quality differs from place to place depending on the location of a particular country. In some cities the water supply may be stated as chlorinated, still it does not mean that it is not contaminated. >>Read More

Its tough to control your temptation when you see your favorite food or something new to taste while traveling. Its difficult eating healthy while on vacation. I’m not trying to say, don’t eat. There’s no sense ruining your diet. The key is to find the happy medium between denying unhealthy foods and an occasional indulgence, and you’ll be on your way to healthy vacation eating. However, there are a few healthy eating tips and tricks to keep watch over what we put in our mouths.

Restaurant Eating Tips
While traveling the majority of your meals are eaten at restaurants. When you’re choosing a restaurant, consider a place with good food. Avoid all-you-can-eat buffets, which promote overeating. If you’re eating out two days or more in a row, pick few outing to be the “treat” and make a bigger effort towards nutrition other times. Plan ahead. >>Read More
